Every Contact Leaves a Trace was inspired by a hike down to the Nakalele Blowhole on the northern tip of Maui. While the blowhole is the obvious attraction, I was drawn to the surrounding rocks that were dramatically eroded from a continuous spray of salt water, appearing as ready-made sculptures. The hand marbled cover and pages in the book are in the paper marbling style called “stones” where paint is whisked onto the marbling bath, creating unique patterns that dialogue in process and appearance with the rocks in the photographs.
